Learn More About jet ski

Jetboats were originally designed by Sir William Hamilton (who developed a waterjet in 1954) for operation in the fast-flowing and shallow rivers of New Zealand, specifically to overcome the problem of propellers striking rocks in such waters.

Today, the most common sailboat is the sloop which features one mast and two sails, a normal mainsail and a foresail. This simple configuration is very efficient for sailing towards the wind. The mainsail is attached to the mast and the boom, which is a spar capable of swinging across the boat, depending on the direction of the wind. Depending on the size and design of the foresail it can be called a jib, genoa, or spinnaker; it is possible but not common for a sloop to carry two foresails from the one forestay at one time (wing on wing). The forestay is a line or cable running from near the top of the mast to a point near the bow. In Bermuda, where a rig design influenced by the Lateen rig appeared on boats and came to be known as the Bermuda rig, a large spinnaker was carried on a spinnaker boom when running down-wind. An example of a typical sloop can be seen on the Islander 36.

New Zealand Jet Boating Experience

By Tim A Alpe

NZ beckons you to its adventurous realms of Jet Boating!

A pulse pounding jet boating experience along the white water rapids of Canterbury is the adventure tourist's ultimate salvation. You can feel the rise in your heart palpitations and blood rushing with adrenaline levels reaching a new high.

The striking design feature in a jet boat is the absence of an external propeller which is replaced by an internal propeller called impeller.

The water is sucked in through inlets at the bottom of the boat. The impellers then drive the water out with great force through nozzles at the rear of the boat. When the nozzles rotate simultaneously during this process, it enables the boat to change direction.

In the absence of external propellers and the ensuing damage to them, the improved clearance under the boat enables the jet to be reversed instantly for quick braking. This instant response causes the boat to do 360 degree spins effortlessly almost within its own length. You are certain to be drenched with every such spin.

This squirting out of water at high speeds just below the surface allows jet boats to operate in depths of just centimetres. This leads to a free for all activity that will wrap you for the rest of your life and give you goosebumps when you recall the exhilaration and the euphoria of the whole jet boating experience.

Once you settle into the boat and buckle up, your adventure starts the minute the accelerator pedal goes down. You are now in the midst of a frenzy of thrills and frills as the boat skips along centimetres of water with the expert driver putting it to the ultimate test of speed and endurance.

You will see blurred rocks flying past your face as the driver deftly avoids crags and boulders and the water sprays into your face. Your only comfort is the handrail you are holding to at this stage.

The best part about jet boating is that is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels and can be enjoyed all year round.

The most exhilarating jet boating rides in the South Island of New Zealand are found at the Kawarau and Shotover rivers near Queenstown. The Buller river near Westport, the Waiatoto river near Haast, the Wilkin river in Mt Aspiring National Park and the Dart river are excellent locations for jet boating.

In the North Island of New Zealand, the top jet boating locations are found at Waikato, Whanganui and Rangitaiki and Motu rivers. The Agrodome in Rotorua has sprint jets and so also at Waitomo. A trip to the Hole in the Rock is a great jetboating ride around the Bay of Islands in Northland.

Starlight 35 yacht- The designer of the Starlight 35 Mk2 , Stephen Jones, has achieved an enviable reputation for his exceptional vision in hull form which has produced many of the most successful racing yachts in the UK in recent years. In the Starlight 35 Mk2, Stephen has provided a fast hull and easily manageable sail plan, combined with an accommodation layout which combines space and comfort with safety and seaworthiness. She was chosen by the judges in the Yachting World Rally as the best yacht in her size range. The Starlight 35 Mk2 enjoys exceptional qualities of thermal and acoustic insulation achieved by a building process which incorporates an inner and outer moulding, enclosing a foam core. This provides a hull which is quieter, warmer and has a noticeable lack of condensation compared with conventionally constructed yachts. The ambience achieved in the cabins from this construction method is therefore exceptional.

Most of day sailors (or even weekend sailors) will never really need navigational skills in order to be able to sail where they want. They will probably see the place right over the bow. People who sail further in the oceans, seas, and even on the Great Lakes of North America will - in turn - not get far without even the most elementary knowledge of how to find themselves on the charts, and where to sail next. As a matter of fact, they will sail far, very far - but from the course leading them to their port of destination.

Size of the jet ski is important. There are jet skis that accommodate one person, two people or four people. The four-person model is a relatively new and quite popular model, so this may be hard to obtain used.

Sailing equipment is an important part of the purchase of a new or second-hand boat. It is one of those things where you can spend as much money as you wish on equipment for your new cruiser or sailing yacht, so you must give yourself a budget. Obviously, there is a set of essential equipment that all water goers must have, but then there are different sets of equipment required, dependent on whether you will be messing around locally or being more adventurous with long off-shore trips.
